New Talents: Fredy Montero

Fredy Montero
Position: Forward
Age: 21 years
Country: Colombia
Current Club: Seattle Sounders (USA)

is the great hope for the Colombian football player fashion MLS professional soccer league in the United States.

Many believed that Real Betis who would bet on him. It appears that there were contacts with Deportivo Cali. Not know why by which finally ended up in the club Seville. The occasion took the Seattle Sounders, the new MLS franchise in the U.S. who bought 65% of the rights to this player. Without doubt, the Seattle team has invested very strong this season. Not only has the young Colombian Pearl but have also hired Sweden's Fredrik Ljungberg, Kasey Keller and on the bench, to Sigi Schmid, the veteran coach who won the title last season with the Columbus Crew.

Montero has come to the MLS endorsed by their numbers in the Colombian league. Has been top scorer in the tournament opening 2007 with 13 goals and closing 2008 with 16 goals, becoming and the youngest player to do so. But Montero is much more than effectiveness. This is a very technical front, that kind of player that attracts attention just to see him playing the ball, the kind of which is expected to do something different than the other players. His talent is undeniable. Tactically I think a spectacular player, of those who are always in the right place at the right time. But that's not his virtues. It's fast, good dribbler, very good unmarked, good header, good kicker from afar, defines very well with both feet, good kicker of fouls and penalties ... And last but not least, a virtue that best exploits is his game back on goal. Protects the ball very well even though it's not a big player. In this situation, if he can turn around can be fatal, if not, good vision and precision make it capable of real estate passes. (See second goal of the first video)
Although comparisons are odious, I can not say I was powerfully reminded of Kun Aguero, bridging the gap. Without doubt, the Kun is the top player he most resembles it. Even his way of moving, running, etc, remind the Argentine player.

Montero came to Seattle with a big sign. The Sounders fans expected much from him and Fredy demonstrated in the first 2 league games that can be the star of this competition. So far we have made history in his debut against the New York Red Bulls, the team of his compatriot, Juan Pablo Angel, the former Newcastle player. In that game, they won a 3-0 Sounders - class gave an assist and scored twice, becoming the first foreigner who managed to score two goals in his debut and the player who scored the first goal of the Seattle Sounders in the history of this club in the MLS. In their second league match, against Real Salt Lake this past week, scored his third goal with a strong chute from outside the area.

To continue at this level, I find it difficult think you can continue one more season in the MLS. This league can be small, very soon.
